Inception of Thorn Tree Idea
Thorn Tree School opened its doors way back in 1993. 30 Years down the history lane, the school has been a reference point and a centre of academic excellence in Kajiado County. It was founded by the late Mrs. Margaret Kashonga and was first domiciled where the Kindergarten is currently situated. The idea of starting a school came to her when she was a teacher at Magadi Soda Company. She was in charge of Pre-Primary education for children of staff members at the company. Her dream came to be true in the year 1993, when she started Thorn Tree School with only one student by the name Kerry Otundo.
As she took these tentative steps, she probably had no idea that her humble efforts would eventually be richly rewarded. They would birth one of the largest and most successful private schools in Kajiado County and the Rift Valley region. Thorn Tree School currently boasts of a roll of hundreds of learners, a fleet of transport buses, storied buildings and dozens of teaching and non-teaching staff members.
Mrs. Kashonga died in the year 2005 after a short illness. She was a staunch christian of PCEA Faith and a member of Woman's Guild.
